A slim waxing crescent Moon keeps company with brilliant Venus in the low western sky tonight.

• Look low in the southwest soon after sunset, around 7:15 to 8:00 PM Eastern, for the Moon and Venus close together in Virgo. The pair is visible without binoculars, though a clear horizon makes the low view easier.
• Venus is the bright one, and it drops below the horizon around 8:00 PM. Start looking as twilight fades, not after the sky is fully dark.
• Later, turn east after about 8:00 PM for Saturn. It rises around 7:50 PM and remains visible through the night, but it is fainter than Venus and easier from a darker spot.
