Tonight’s Sky – A nearly full Moon brightens the evening – September 25th

A nearly full Moon rises in the east at 6:19 PM Eastern, one day before the September full Moon.

What to see

  • Moon: Look east around 6:19 PM Eastern for the 98.3% illuminated waxing gibbous Moon. Easy: its nearly full face is hard to miss, even from a bright neighborhood.
  • Evening window: Sunset arrives at 6:54 PM Eastern. Start your watch then, when the Moon is already up and the sky begins to darken.
  • Late-night option: The Moon remains above the horizon until about 5:38 AM Saturday, so you can keep checking through the night.

Bonus

  • Southern Taurids: This meteor shower is active from September 10 through November 20. Its October 10 peak is still ahead, with a possible five meteors per hour at peak, so treat tonight as a patient, long-shot search.

Moon note: Waxing gibbous, 98.3% illuminated, rises at 6:19 PM Eastern. Full Moon arrives tomorrow at 12:49 PM.
